I just got a text message from our current Attorney General here in Washington State, Bob Ferguson.
He’s running for WA State Governor in 2024.
Angela - it’s Bob Ferguson, Democrat and Attorney General of Washington State. 𝐈 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐈’𝐦 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩.
From protecting abortion rights to banning the sale of assault weapons, I’ve never been afraid to take on big fights as Washington’s Attorney General.
We know this campaign will be tough. Previous gubernatorial races without an incumbent have been very close and dark money interests will spend millions to elect a candidate who doesn’t share our values. That’s why I need your help to come out of the gate strong.

Together, we’ll win this race and keep Washington blue.
My first reaction was, ‘wait, is Jay Inslee not running for re-election,” and a short google later I found he was not. I had hoped Jay had one more term in him, he’s been a terrific Governor for our people.
But Bob Ferguson has been one of the most pro-active State Attorney Generals in the country for some time now.

SEATTLE — Attorney General Bob Ferguson today announced he’s leading a coalition of 16 attorneys general in an amicus brief to the United States Supreme Court defending workers’ rights.
Glacier Northwest Inc v. International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local Union No. 174 potentially threatens workers’ right to strike and the effectiveness of the National Labor Relations Act. Washington and its multistate partners filed the “friend-of-the-court” brief late last week.
“The right to strike is critical to workers’ ability to advocate for themselves, and rightly protected under federal law,” Ferguson said. “My office will stand up for workers’ rights.”
Leading a coalition of 18 states, AG Ferguson files lawsuit challenging Trump family separation
Jun 26 2018Lawsuit filed in the Western District of Washington
SEATTLE — Attorney General Bob Ferguson today filed his multi-state lawsuit challenging the Trump Administration’s policy of forced family separation on the U.S. southern border. A total of 16 states and the District of Columbia joined Ferguson’s suit, filed today in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.
The states joining Ferguson’s lawsuit include: Massachusetts, California, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
“This case, like all our cases against this Administration, says something important about who we are as a people,” Ferguson said. “We will stand up for the Constitution, basic decency and fundamental American values. My office has not yet lost a lawsuit to the Trump Administration, and we do not intend to lose this one.”
Ferguson and Governor Jay Inslee announced the lawsuit at a press conference last week, outside the federal prison in SeaTac, Washington where the federal government was detaining dozens of women after forcibly separating their children from them.
I’ve long been an admirer of this public servant. He has always stood up for the citizens of Washington State when it mattered.
I believe that he will be a good and decent Governor for our people, just as he has been a true defender of Rights as our Attorney General since 2013.
I know it’s early in the cycle, but early donations drive large donor donations, which can be paramount in winning executive level seats in the States.
Please, if you live in WA State, send Bob a bit of dough re mi today. Any amount helps drive interest and other donors at this time.
UPDATE from the comments courtesy Community member JJJG
I've voted for Bob Ferguson in the last three state AG races and will happily continue to vote for him when he runs for the governor's seat. For those who don't know what he has accomplished as our State AG since assuming office in January 2013, here's a brief highlight off of the WA state AG's website:
- Successfully blocked President Trump’s first executive order barring travel from seven Muslim-majority nations.
- Won an important case for the rights of same-sex couples in Washington when he filed a consumer protection lawsuit against a Richland florist for refusing to provide flowers for a same-sex wedding. Bob personally argued this case in front of the Washington State Supreme Court, which ruled unanimously in favor of the state.
- Won a major lawsuit against the Grocery Manufacturer’s Association, an association of large corporations that attempted to shield the identity of the true source of contributions to an initiative campaign, and thereby intentionally violated Washington campaign finance laws. A Thurston County Superior Court Judge ordered the organization to pay $18 million in punitive damages and $1.1 million in attorney costs and fees – the largest campaign finance judgment in United States history, ever.
- Formed the Wing Luke Civil Rights Division, the first office within the Attorney General’s Office dedicated to protecting the civil rights of everyone in Washington.
- Filed multiple legal actions against the U.S. Department of Energy regarding the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, first for delaying cleanup of nuclear waste at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, and then for putting hundreds of Hanford workers at risk of exposure to harmful toxic waste. Both lawsuits led to successful outcomes.
- Created the Counsel for Environmental Protection within the Attorney General’s Office to protect our environment and the safety and health of all Washingtonians.
- Created the Office of Military and Veteran Legal Assistance within the Attorney General’s Office to help current and former service members find pro bono legal assistance.
